Jan Allen has been a familiar face to many, none more so than the remote community residents and their companion animals which she visited many times throughout her eleven years with AMRRIC. Her wonderfully smiley disposition and infectious chuckle would be acquainted with communities, service providers, volunteers and program partners, across many remote regions of Australia.
Jan’s passion and enthusiasm for improving the health of remote community companion animals was at the forefront of her work. She was always considered in her approach, taking each conversation as an opportunity to educate and share her veterinary knowledge. In compliment, Jan was a great and patient listener too.
When it came time for Jan to announce her retirement, the AMRRIC team were obviously saddened to be losing a great colleague and mentor, but also excited for Jan as she takes on a new chapter, closer to family. AMRRIC farewelled Jan in November 2019. Jan was presented with a commemorative video at a dinner celebrated with AMRRIC staff, Board Directors and friends, and here is a little of what Jan’s colleagues had to say in recognition of her long career with AMRRIC:
