Happy Retirement to an AMRRIC Legend!

A familiar big smile from Jan.

Jan Allen has been a familiar face to many, none more so than the remote community residents and their companion animals which she visited many times throughout her eleven years with AMRRIC.  Her wonderfully smiley disposition and infectious chuckle would be acquainted with communities, service providers, volunteers and program partners, across many remote regions of Australia.

Jan’s passion and enthusiasm for improving the health of remote community companion animals was at the forefront of her work.  She was always considered in her approach, taking each conversation as an opportunity to educate and share her veterinary knowledge. In compliment, Jan was a great and patient listener too

When it came time for Jan to announce her retirement, the AMRRIC team were obviously saddened to be losing a great colleague and mentor, but also excited for Jan as she takes on a new chapter, closer to family.  AMRRIC farewelled Jan in November 2019.  Jan was presented with a commemorative video at a dinner celebrated with AMRRIC staff, Board Directors and friends, and here is a little of what Jan’s colleagues had to say in recognition of her long career with AMRRIC:

“Congratulations on a long and accomplished time with AMRRIC.” Kate Blaszak, AMRRIC Board Chair

On the AMRRIC trips we did together you taught me so much about hard work and patience, appreciation of beautiful places, maintaining a sense of humour, and I think most of all how to be respectful and considerate to people and animals alike – and for all this I am so grateful I got the chance to work with you.  Kirsty Officer, AMRRIC Volunteer

I am so impressed by what Jan has contributed to animals all over the world throughout her career and I really hope she has a happy, healthy and very well deserved retirement.” Alison Taylor, AMRRIC Board Member and Veterinary Partner

“Her knowledge, her gentle nature combined with subtle strong resolution, her communication skills able to organise coherent teams to work in remote places will be sorely missed by AMRRIC.” Graeme Blanch, AMRRIC veterinary partner

“You’re the face of AMRRIC to many of our stakeholders.” Brooke Rankmore, AMRRIC CEO

“I want to thank you for your joy, your enthusiasm, and your belief in the work that we do, and your belief in the people we serve.” Samantha Phelan, Roper Gulf Regional Council Veterinarian

On behalf of the AMRRIC Board, CEO and staff – past and present, thanks and good luck Jan!  We will miss you, but the friendships will carry on.
